I have a static web site and would like to display the news posts on the front page of the web site as updates and I can not figure out how to do so.

Hi Andrew,

There is number of ways to do so. One is using widgets (and additional sidebar). You could use page templates for that (http://wpmu.org/easy-guide-to-displaying-custom-post-types-in-your-wordpress-theme/) or a more advanced solution like that from Justin Tadlock (http://justintadlock.com/archives/2010/02/02/showing-custom-post-types-on-your-home-blog-page)
